Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied Sciences, REVA University, conducted an alumni talk on Career Prospects for Life Science students on 27th September 2025. The session was organized exclusively for the final year MSc. students of Biotechnology and Microbial Technology to give an insight into the various career opportunities, latest trends and future aspects in Life Science domain. Mr. Hemanth RA, Young Professional II, ICAR-NIVEDI, Bengaluru was the resource person. Mr. Hemanth began by providing a comprehensive overview of animal biotechnology, explaining its significance in improving livestock health, productivity, and disease resistance through genetic engineering, cloning, and molecular diagnostics. He shared his professional journey — from his days as a student at the university to working on transgenic animals, CRISPR gene-editing, and veterinary diagnostics in both research and industry settings. The session included real-world examples such as the development of genetically modified livestock resistant to diseases, and the creation of diagnostic tools for zoonotic infections like Brucellosis and Foot-and-Mouth Disease. Mr. Hemanth also discussed recent advances in the field, including cell-based meat production, AI integration in animal genomics, and ethical concerns surrounding the use of biotechnology in animals. He emphasized the interdisciplinary nature of animal biotechnology and encouraged students to explore beyond textbooks, engage in practical research, and stay informed about emerging technologies. In the concluding part of his talk, he offered valuable advice to students on building a career in biotechnology, highlighting the importance of curiosity, perseverance, and responsible science. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students posed questions about career opportunities, research scope, and ethical issues in animal biotechnology.
