The Alumni Cell, REVA University, in association with the NCC Army Wing, REVA University and the Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI) – Karnataka Defence Forces Council, organized an Alumni Talk on “Opportunities in Defence Forces” on 20th September 2025. The session aimed to inspire students and alumni to explore career opportunities in the Indian Armed Forces and to instill a sense of patriotism, discipline, and national pride among the participants. The resource person for the session was Lt. Col. Bhavana MV | BE EEE, 2010 alumna of REVA University. With her vast experience, she shared valuable insights into life and career in the Defence Forces, encouraging the youth to serve the nation with dedication and courage. The event was coordinated under the leadership of the Alumni Cell in collaboration with the NCC Army Wing, 39 KAR BN, REVA University, and the WICCI Karnataka Defence Forces Council. The talk began with a brief introduction of Lt. Col. Bhavana, by senior NCC Cadet highlighting her academic journey at REVA University and her commendable service in the Indian Army. She addressed the audience on various aspects of defence careers through her presentation titled “Join Indian Army – A Way of Life.” The presentation provided an in-depth understanding of the structure and role of the Indian Army, its core values, and the professional and personal growth it offers. Lt. Col. Bhavana elaborated on multiple entry schemes available for both men and women, including Permanent Commission, Short Service Commission, NCC Special Entry, and Technical Entry Schemes. She shared detailed information about the eligibility criteria, selection process, and training modules associated with each entry route. Her talk also covered the emoluments, benefits, and post-retirement opportunities available to officers in the Indian Armed Forces. The session highlighted that a career in defence not only ensures job security and economic stability but also provides a life of dignity, adventure, and service to the nation. Further, she shed light on the role and organization of the Indian Army, emphasizing its primary and secondary responsibilities from safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty to assisting civil authorities in maintaining internal security. Through her talk, Lt. Col. Bhavana beautifully described the ethos of the Army, portraying it as a life of honour, commitment, and excellence. She explained how officers undergo continuous learning through professional, technical, management, and foreign courses, which enable them to evolve into capable leaders and decision-makers. The session was highly interactive, with students, alumni, and NCC cadets participating enthusiastically in the discussion. Lt. Col. Bhavana patiently answered queries related to the preparation strategy for defence examinations, personality development, physical fitness, and life in the armed forces. Her practical advice and personal anecdotes left a strong impact on the audience, motivating them to consider the Indian Army as a fulfilling and respectable career option. In her closing remarks, Lt. Col. Bhavana emphasized that the Indian Army offers not just a career but a way of life that blends discipline, adventure, and service to the nation. She encouraged students to cultivate leadership qualities, mental resilience, and a sense of duty, irrespective of the profession they choose. Her words, “Life in the Army is unparalleled. It gives you the strength to face challenges and the pride of serving the nation,” resonated deeply with the audience. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks from the President, Prof. Srinidhi S U, REVA University Alumni Association, expressing heartfelt appreciation to Lt. Col. Bhavana MV for her time, effort, and inspiring session. The Cell also extended gratitude to NCC Army Wing 39 KAR BN, REVA University, and WICCI Karnataka Defence Forces Council for their valuable collaboration in making the event a grand success.
