On 01/04/2025, the Department of Performing Arts, REVA University, organized an enriching alumni talk that turned out to be an eye-opening and soul-stirring experience for all attendees. The session featured one of our distinguished alumni Ms. Deepa S Pillai, who shared her journey and deep insights into the world of Indian classical dance and its aesthetics, spiritual, cultural, and theoretical significance.
She passionately emphasized the importance of classical dance and its underlying theory, encouraging all of us to recognize it not just as performance art, but as a profound medium to express ancient wisdom, spiritual connection, and cultural identity. She highlighted how this knowledge—rooted in centuries-old traditions—should not remain confined within India but must be shared across the globe so that more people can appreciate the depth and beauty of our heritage.
A significant part of her talk was dedicated to her journey at New York University (NYU), where she further explored her passion for the arts. She reflected on how the experience broadened her understanding and how the global exposure helped her see Indian art from a fresh perspective. She noted that many people abroad, especially at NYU, had an awareness of Indian arts, but the depth of understanding was limited. Her mission was to bridge that gap by bringing the rich theory and spiritual essence of our traditions to international platforms.
