An offline alumni talk was arranged for the benefit of M.Sc. and B.Sc. students. The talk was delivered by Ms. Varsha G of M.Sc. Chemistry 2019-2021 batch. The alumnus currently working for Bureau Veritas consumer products and services. The talk was arranged in Dr. Junjappa seminar hall, Science block, REVA University, on 21.09.2022 from 1.45pm – 2.45pm.
The Ms. Varsha G presented an offline alumni talk on testing of various chemicals in the fabric materials used in textile industries. The various chemicals such as formaldehyde, alkyl phenyls, Cr(IV) are generally produced during fabric processing. These chemicals shall be tested for their presence in the fiber material, which otherwise cause skin problems especially in European countries. These chemicals if not removed, may become very potential hazardous materials. The pH factor shall be maintained to get quality fabric material. The instruments namely, HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS are used for the analysis of these materials. Ms. Varsha G also demonstrated a small test to check the quality of the fabric materials in terms of formaldehyde. The event was mainly conducted for I and III SEM M.Sc. Chemistry students to create awareness about various analytical instruments used in the industries for testing materials and their importance.
The meeting was concluded with vote of thanks and a memento was presented to the alumni student.
